Introducing
Ubuntu
Antivirus
I've
put together a Live Ubuntu Cd that can be used to clean an infected
Windows machine of virus. It uses the native linux version of Avast
antivirus. It also uses the windows Malwarebytes by way of wine ( a
windows compatibility layer for linux ).
This can prove to be a
very useful tool in cleaning an infected windows machine.
Some infections can get so bad that the do not allow any
malware removal software to be installed. This tool can help
to clean those messed up machines because by running from a live linux
cd the virus on the windows machine is not active and has nowhere to
hide. There are a few live antivirus cd's out there but none
of them offered very effective removal. I decided to make
this livecd with two pieces of software that I use most often (Avast
Antivirus and Malwarebytes).
This livecd was made for the strict purpose of cleaning infected
windows machines however if you use it and like it you do have the
option to install it on your machine to make your machine dual bootable.
This is based on Ubuntu 10.10 and uses the LXDE desktop. The
advantage of this is that it is a lightweight and fast distro.
The download size for this is 661mb and will fit a CD.
After downloading this you can burn it to CD using free software
like Imgburn.
